Helmholtz Zentrum München, German Research Center for Environmental Health (GmbH)

The Institute for Health Economics and Health Care Management is one of nearly two dozen institutes at the Helmholtz Zentrum München, German Research Centre for Environmental Health (GmbH), in Neuherberg near Munich. Its research areas are effectiveness and cost-effectiveness in health care as well as investigating the possibilities of increasing both. Therefore, questions of economics and management will be handled at the level of both health systems and medical care and individual institutions and technologies, using empirical methods.

The Institute of Epidemiology at the Helmholtz Zentrum München and the chair of epidemiology at LMU are administered together with the research focus in Neuherberg and are managed by Professor Dr Dr H.-Erich Wichmann. At the institute, there are about 40 scientists and 40 technical employees who are actively engaged in national and international boards and committees as well as in professional consultation with agencies and the wider population regarding current issues.
